The 10 Best Stag Do Destinations in Europe

A good stag destination is cheap enough that nobody drops out, close enough that Friday isn't lost to travel, and has enough going on beyond the bars to fill the daytime. We've compared 10 European cities on exactly those things, using Eurostat's 2025 price levels and airline timetables for flights from London, and ranked them for a UK group of 8 to 20 lads.
Quick summary
- Sofia comes out on top for value, because Bulgaria has the EU's lowest price level for restaurants and accommodation (55.7, where the EU average is 100), but its 3-hour flight from London is the longest on the list.
- Prague, Krakow and Budapest are the classic middle ground, with flights of 1h50 to 2h25 and going-out prices roughly 18% to 31% below the EU average.
- Berlin and Amsterdam are the dearest picks, and the Netherlands' going-out price level of 119.9 is more than twice Bulgaria's.
- Amsterdam (1h20), Berlin (1h45) and Prague (1h50) are the shortest flights from London, which matters most when the group only has 2 nights.
- All 10 cities are in the Schengen area, so every passport in the group must have been issued less than 10 years before you land and run at least 3 months past the day you fly home.
- Sofia has used the euro since 1 January 2026, while Prague, Krakow and Budapest still run on the koruna, zloty and forint.
Europe's best stag destinations at a glance
The price column is Eurostat's 2025 price level index for restaurants and accommodation services (dataset prc_ppp_ind_1), which covers what a stag group spends most of its money on: bar drinks, meals out and hotels. 100 is the EU average, so Bulgaria's 55.7 means prices about 44% below it and the Netherlands' 119.9 means about 20% above. The figures are national averages, so read them as a guide to the country, not a price list for any one bar.
Flight times are the scheduled times on Ryanair's October 2026 timetable from Stansted. The one exception is Amsterdam, which Ryanair doesn't fly from London, so its time is the scheduled time of easyJet's morning flight from Gatwick.
| City | Going-out prices (EU = 100) | Flight from London | Currency | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Sofia, Bulgaria | 55.7 | 3h00 | Euro | The lowest prices, with a mountain on the doorstep |
| 2. Prague, Czechia | 69.5 | 1h50 | Czech koruna | A short flight and famous beer halls |
| 3. Krakow, Poland | 80.5 | 2h20 | Polish zloty | Cheap nights in a compact old town |
| 4. Budapest, Hungary | 82.4 | 2h25 | Hungarian forint | Thermal baths and ruin bars |
| 5. Lisbon, Portugal | 73.6 | 2h50 | Euro | Late nights with beaches nearby |
| 6. Bratislava, Slovakia | 84.6 | 2h10 | Euro | Smaller groups after a quieter city |
| 7. Barcelona, Spain | 85.4 | 2h15 | Euro | A city beach and seafront clubs |
| 8. Riga, Latvia | 87.4 | 2h30 | Euro | Somewhere new for groups who've done Prague |
| 9. Berlin, Germany | 108.4 | 1h45 | Euro | Clubbing |
| 10. Amsterdam, Netherlands | 119.9 | 1h20 | Euro | The shortest flight on the list |
The 10 best stag do destinations in Europe
The order weighs three things for a UK group: what a night out costs once you land, how long it takes to get there, and how much there is to do in the daytime. Price carries the most weight, because the per-head cost decides how many of the lads actually say yes.
1. Sofia, Bulgaria
The case for Sofia starts with price: Bulgaria's going-out price level is 55.7, the lowest in the EU and 20% below Czechia's, and its overall price level is 62.5, about half the UK's 123.3. Taxis and transfers are cheap too, as Bulgaria also has the EU's lowest price level for passenger transport.
Sofia has used the euro since 1 January 2026, so there's no exchange maths at the bar. Our planners run 46 activities in and around the city, and what sets Sofia apart from Prague or Krakow is the mountain country around it: Vitosha rises straight off its southern edge. A group can spend a day on quad bikes on mountain trails outside the city and still be back in town for dinner.

The catch is the flight. Stansted to Sofia is scheduled at 3 hours on Ryanair's timetable, the longest on this list, and Sofia is 2 hours ahead of the UK, so a morning departure lands around lunchtime. There are at least 2 flights every day, 51 of them between 1 and 24 October.
From our planners
The time difference takes 2 hours off your Friday and gives them back on Sunday. Skip the 05:45 flight home that runs on most mornings, because after the last night out it means leaving the hotel at about 3am. On the first weekend of October, the daytime Friday flight lands at 14:10 and the Sunday one leaves at 17:15, which still gives the group a full 48 hours in the city.
Hotels are quoted for each group, and our three packages put the activities and the airport transfers at a fixed price per head.
A Sofia weekend with us, per person
- Cheap-Ass: bar crawl, escape room, bowling, food tasting, transfers
- €134
- Legendary: VIP pub crawl, karting, paintball, beer tour, stag dinner, transfers
- €274
- The VIP: shooting, VIP clubbing, strip club, karting, party bus and more
- €558
- Hotel
- Quoted per group
- Flights from London
- Not included
- Total
- €134 to €558 a head
Flights and the hotel come on top of the package, and they are the two numbers that move: the hotel is quoted for your dates and group size, and fares climb as the weekend gets closer.
2. Prague, Czechia
Prague is the benchmark every other stag city gets measured against, and the numbers still hold up. Czechia's going-out price level is 69.5, the third lowest in the EU after Bulgaria and Romania, and the 1h50 flight is the shortest of the cheap cities on this list.
The weekend plans itself: beer halls, the Old Town, a boat on the Vltava and clubs that keep going until the early hours. You'll pay in Czech koruna, not euros. The price index is a national average, and a bar on Old Town Square is not an average Czech bar, so the savings shrink the closer you drink to the tourist centre.
3. Krakow, Poland
Ryanair flies to Krakow from both Stansted and Luton, 2h20 on the timetable from either, with 103 flights between them in the first 24 days of October. Poland's going-out price level is 80.5, and its overall price level of 73.3 is the third lowest in the EU.
The old town is compact enough to walk between bars all night, and the classic daytime trip is the Wieliczka salt mine just outside the city. Krakow has been a stag favourite for years, so expect company from other groups on the main square on a Saturday night.
4. Budapest, Hungary
Budapest has the best hangover cure on this list: the thermal baths, where a morning in hot water counts as the day's entertainment. Nights run through the ruin bars of the old Jewish quarter, and the Danube splits the city into Buda and Pest, which makes a river cruise the obvious way to start an evening.
Hungary still uses the forint, and its going-out price level of 82.4 is the highest of the classic trio, though still 18% below the EU average. The flight from Stansted is 2h25.
| Measure | Sofia | Prague | Krakow | Budapest |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Flight from Stansted | 3h00 | 1h50 | 2h20 | 2h25 |
| Time difference from the UK | +2 hours | +1 hour | +1 hour | +1 hour |
| Ryanair flights from Stansted, 1 to 24 Oct 2026 | 51 | 65 | 76, plus 27 from Luton | 89 |
| Currency | Euro | Koruna | Zloty | Forint |
| Going-out price level (EU = 100) | 55.7 | 69.5 | 80.5 | 82.4 |
| Overall price level (EU = 100, UK = 123.3) | 62.5 | 89.4 | 73.3 | 77.5 |
5. Lisbon, Portugal
Lisbon is the pick for a group that wants sun without Spanish prices: Portugal's going-out price level is 73.6 against Spain's 85.4, and it uses the euro. Nights start in the narrow streets of Bairro Alto, where the drinking happens outside, and end by the river in Cais do Sodré.
In the warmer months the beaches along the coast west of the city are a short train ride away. The trade-off is the flight: 2h50 from Stansted, nearly as long as Sofia's, though Lisbon is on UK time, so none of it is lost to the clock. Portugal's going-out prices beat Poland's and Hungary's, but Lisbon's best daytime draw is the beach, which works from June to September, while Krakow's salt mine and Budapest's baths work in any month, so it ranks below both.
6. Bratislava, Slovakia
Bratislava suits a smaller group that wants a quieter city with fewer Brits about. Slovakia's hotels, holiday lets and campsites logged 60,332 arrivals from the UK in 2024 on Eurostat's figures, the fewest of any country on this list, against 530,067 for Czechia.
The old town is small enough to cover on foot in an afternoon, the castle looks down on the Danube, and the flight from Stansted is 2h10, with a departure every day. Slovakia uses the euro, and its going-out price level is 84.6. The honest drawback is size: after 2 nights, a big group will have seen most of it.
7. Barcelona, Spain
Barcelona is the one city on this list where a group can spend the afternoon on a city beach and the night in a seafront club. Dinner runs late, the clubs later, and the football is there if the dates line up.
Ryanair's Stansted flight is 2h15 on the October timetable, with 99 flights in the first 24 days of the month. Spain's going-out price level is 85.4, well above Portugal's but well under Germany's 108.4. Spain is also where UK holidaymakers go most: its tourist accommodation logged 14.4 million UK arrivals in 2024, so a British stag group is nothing new to anyone there.
8. Riga, Latvia
Riga is for the group that has already done Prague and Krakow and wants somewhere new. Latvia logged 94,737 UK arrivals at its tourist accommodation in 2024, under a fifth of Czechia's figure.
The medieval old town is packed with bars, and the local drink is Riga Black Balsam, a herbal liqueur that splits every group down the middle. The flight from Stansted is 2h30, Riga is 2 hours ahead of the UK, and Latvia uses the euro. Price is the drawback: Latvia's going-out price level is 87.4, the highest of the 8 cities so far.
9. Berlin, Germany
Berlin earns its place with the clubs, the best of which run from Saturday night deep into Sunday. Door policies at the famous ones are strict and hard to predict, so a group of 12 in matching T-shirts needs a second plan.
The flight is short: 1h45 from Stansted to Berlin Brandenburg, every day. Germany's going-out price level is 108.4, nearly twice Bulgaria's, but shop prices for alcohol in Germany are the second lowest in the EU after Italy's, which helps the pre-drinks.
10. Amsterdam, Netherlands
Amsterdam wins on travel: easyJet's morning flight from Gatwick is scheduled at 1h20, the shortest on this list, and the centre is compact enough to walk between the canals, the brown cafés and the bars.
It is also the most expensive city here by a distance. The Netherlands' going-out price level is 119.9, about 20% above the EU average and more than twice Bulgaria's, so for a group watching the budget the short flight rarely makes up for the bar bill.
How to choose a stag do destination
Budget per head
Agree a per-head budget that includes flights before anyone names a city, because the city then mostly picks itself. On Eurostat's index, Bulgaria's restaurant and accommodation prices are 46% of the Netherlands' and 51% of Germany's, so the same weekend of bars, meals and hotels costs roughly half as much. If money decides it, the cheapest countries in the EU for a night out are Bulgaria, Romania and Czechia, in that order.
Flight time and the clock
Flight time and clock time are not the same thing. Sofia and Riga are 2 hours ahead of the UK and most of the others 1 hour, so the flight out costs more clock than the timetable shows and the flight home gives it back. Lisbon is on UK time, so its 2h50 costs exactly 2h50, and each way Sofia's flight is 1h40 longer than Amsterdam's.
Check the airports too. Every flight time quoted here is from Stansted apart from Amsterdam, which is from Gatwick, and a group spread across the country should check which airports serve its city on its dates before committing. The cheapest city is no bargain if half the lads need a train to Stansted first.
From our planners
Put the whole group on the same outbound flight, even if a few lads pay more to get on it. A group that lands in two halves spends its first evening waiting in a hotel bar for the stragglers, and the airport transfer has to run twice.
Things to do beyond the bars
Two nights out is the easy part; the daytime is what separates a good stag from a blurry one. Look for a city where the group can do something physical or properly different without losing half a day to transfers. In Sofia that runs from paintball and outdoor karting to a historian-led tour of the communist monuments, while Budapest's baths fill a morning and Krakow has the salt mine.
Season
Barcelona and Lisbon earn their place with sun and sea, so they make most sense from June to September and lose their edge in winter. The inland cities work all year, since the core of a stag weekend is bars, restaurants and indoor activities. In Sofia, the best months for a stag weekend depend on how much of the plan happens outdoors: quad bikes and paintball want dry ground, while the bars, the shooting range and the escape rooms work in any weather.
| If the group wants | Go for | Why |
|---|---|---|
| The lowest spend per head | Sofia, Prague, Lisbon | The 3 lowest going-out price levels here: 55.7, 69.5 and 73.6 |
| The shortest travel day | Amsterdam, Berlin, Prague | Flights of 1h20, 1h45 and 1h50 |
| Sun and a beach | Barcelona, Lisbon | The 2 coastal cities, best from June to September |
| Daytime activities as well as nights out | Sofia, Budapest, Krakow | A mountain, thermal baths and a salt mine within easy reach |
| Somewhere the group hasn't been | Riga, Bratislava | The fewest UK arrivals in 2024: 94,737 and 60,332 |
| Everything paid in euros | Sofia, Lisbon, Bratislava, Barcelona, Riga, Berlin, Amsterdam | All 7 use the euro |
Before you book the city
- Headcount confirmed with a deposit from every lad, not a thumbs-up in the group chat
- Per-head budget agreed, including flights and the hotel
- Every passport checked: issued less than 10 years before the day you land, with 3 months left after you fly home
- Direct flights confirmed from every airport the group will use, on your dates
- The groom's must-dos and hard no's written down
- The weather checked if the plan leans on anything outdoors
Passport rules for a stag do in Europe
Every city on this list is in the Schengen area and the UK isn't, so the whole group queues at passport control on arrival. Under the EU's Entry/Exit System, each lad may also have to register fingerprints and a photo at the border, so a group of 15 should allow extra time at arrivals before the transfer.
Check the issue date on every passport
GOV.UK's entry rules say a British passport must have been issued less than 10 years before the day you arrive and stay valid for at least 3 months after the day you leave the Schengen area. A passport renewed before 1 October 2018 can show a valid expiry date and still fail the 10-year rule. If one lad's passport fails, he can be turned away at check-in or at the border, and his flight and his share of the weekend are gone.
Questions the group chat asks
What are the top 10 stag do destinations in Europe?
On our ranking they are Sofia, Prague, Krakow, Budapest, Lisbon, Bratislava, Barcelona, Riga, Berlin and Amsterdam. The order weighs going-out prices first, then flight time from London and what there is to do in the daytime. Sofia tops it on price, and Amsterdam comes last for the same reason.
Where is the best place in Europe for a lads' holiday?
For a 2-night weekend, Sofia, Prague or Krakow; for a longer summer trip, Lisbon or Barcelona. A short weekend wants a cheap city with a manageable flight and plenty to do whatever the weather. A week in summer can take a longer flight in exchange for a beach alongside the nights out.
Which stag do destinations in Europe are sunny?
Barcelona and Lisbon are the 2 coastal cities on this list, and both are at their best from June to September. Lisbon is the cheaper of the two, with a going-out price level of 73.6 against Spain's 85.4. The inland cities can be warm in summer, but none of them has a beach.
Where is good for a stag do in March?
Prague, Krakow, Budapest or Sofia, because their weekends run on bars, beer halls, clubs and indoor activities rather than the weather. Budapest's thermal baths work in any weather too. The beach cities are out of season in March, so Barcelona and Lisbon lose the thing that sets them apart.
What are some unusual stag do destinations in Europe?
Bucharest, Vilnius and Tallinn are the three we'd look at after Riga. Romania has the EU's second lowest going-out price level (59.4) and the flight from Stansted is 3h10, while Vilnius is about 2h40 away and Tallinn 2h45, though Tallinn isn't served every day from Stansted in October. Lithuania and Estonia use the euro; Romania uses the leu.
Where is the best place to have a stag do?
In Europe, Sofia is the best value: Bulgaria's going-out price level of 55.7 is the lowest in the EU, and there's a mountain on the city's edge for the daytime. If the group would rather fly for under 2 hours, Prague is the shortest flight of the cheap cities at 1h50 from Stansted. For sun, Lisbon is the cheaper of the 2 coastal picks.
Do you need a visa for a stag do in Europe?
No. British citizens can visit Schengen countries such as Bulgaria without a visa for up to 90 days in any 180-day period, according to GOV.UK. A stag weekend sits well inside that, so the only paperwork that matters is a passport that passes the issue-date and validity rules.
